The celebration of World Day for Consecrated Life invites all the Church to reflect on the role of Consecrated Life within the Christian community. Those who choose to live a consecrated life do so for the sake of the gospel. In 1997, Venerable Pope John Paul II called February 2, the feast of the Presentation of the Lord, to be observed as World Day for Consecrated Life. He explained, because “the Presentation of Jesus in the Temple is an eloquent icon of the total offering of one’s life for all those who are called to show forth in the Church and in the world, by means of the evangelical counsels the characteristic features of Jesus — the chaste, poor and obedient one.” (In the United States, when February 2 is not on a Sunday, we celebrate on the Sunday after the Presentation.)
“When it is winter, it is cold. This is the law of nature”, said a stoker to his boss by phone in one famous Polish comedy. Living in Eastern coast we can say, “when it is winter, it snows”. And it snows a lot. 16 inches? 20 inches? Who knows? After couple of storms in recent days our Provincial House in Manchester, CT is almost completely covered by snowdrop. However, as Fr. Rafal Kopystynski, Provincial said, “WE HAVE SURVIVED”. You can make sure he’s right watching these pictures shot at noon today. Fr. Marek Sadowski, Provincial Econome examines the situation.
“The world is not now what it once was, nor is it what it will be”, says Superior General, Rev. Gregory Gay CM in his letter released today, on use of new technologies in communication and mission. “Just twenty years ago few in the Congregation had any awareness of how the world would be changed by technology… ” Today “one web site alone, Facebook, has a population the size of the third largest country in the world… Have not missionaries always had to learn the language and culture of a mission territory?”, he continues inviting all Confreres to reflect on how new technologies can help in the mission of the Congregation.
