Congregation of the Mission is 395 years old today

Since almost 400 years, the Feast of Conversion of St. Paul marks the milestone of the Congregation of the Priests of the Mission, which is known as Congregation of the Mission now, in English speaking world commonly known as Vincentians. On January 25, 1617 Vincent de Paul, a young priest, chaplain of the Gondi Family preached a sermon in Folleville, a village in the region of Picardy, belonging to their estates. The sermon was on general confession. It produced such a response that other priests were called to help hear all the confessions. According to Vincent himself this was the beginning of the Congregation he formally formed in 1625.

Christmas Message from the Superior General and the Curia

“The Lord comes to rule the Earth, justice ad right sustain His throne” says Superior General, Most Rev. G. Gregory Gay CM at the beginning of his annual Christmas message addressed to all members of the Vincentian Family in the world. Other members of the Curia, Assistants General and other officers follow Fr. Greg bringing Christmas greetings in their native languages – English, Spanish, Italian, Tigrinya, Portuguese and Slovak. Christmas greetings from the Personnel of General Curia in Rome

Unlike any other year before, special Christmas message is delivered from all the personnel of the General Curia of the Congregation of the Mission in Rome, Italy. Both members of the Vincentian community and lay employees are wishing you Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Everybody in the video speaks in native language and although translation (English subtitles) is available for some of the speeches the atmosphere easily moves you into this special atmosphere of joy, peace and love always present during this family festival.

“The light shines in the darkness…” – Superior General writes for Advent 2011

Words from the Gospel of St. John: “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it” introduce us to the Advent Letter of the Superior General. In his reflection addressed to all members of worldwide Vincentian Family Fr. Gregory Gay CM writes: “I am edified by so many of my confreres, Daughters of Charity, and Vincentian Family members who courageously enter the world’s dark corners to illuminate them with the light of Christ. Let me share some examples to illustrate how they live the Advent journey of light and hope.”
