Pope expressed words of thanks for their important service in the period of vacancy and conclave. He emphasized how important delivering news is in making history of the modern world. In the second part of his address Pope explained how it happened he choose name of Francis – “he is the man of poverty, the man of peace, the man who loves and protects creation”. At 6:OO AM EDT, Friday, March 15, Pope Francis met College of Cardinals, including the elderly ones who did not participate in his election, in special audience at Clementine Hall of the Apostolic Palace. Not only cardinals electors were present but those elders who couldn’t take part in the conclave, too. After being greeted by Dean of the College, Cardinal Sodano, the Pope addressed attendants. Smiling Pope Francis implored his audience to “not cede to the bitterness and pessimism that the devil offers us every day.” Instead, the church must “find new ways to spread the word of God to every corner of the world.” The full text of his address follows:

At noon (EDT) newly elected Pope Francis and 114 cardinals electors celebrated the Missa pro Ecclesiae (Mass for the Church) at Sistine Chapel. A meeting with College of Cardinals at 11:OO AM (Rome time) was the last official event of Pope Benedict XVI. It took place in beautiful frescoed Clementine Hall attended by 144 cardinals those who will elect new Pope and those over 80. In his farewell address the Pontiff said “May God show you what He wants from you. Under a clear blue sky with temperatures in the low 40s, the pope arrived for his last public audience shortly after 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 27, 2013, standing and waving for almost 15 minutes as his white popemobile made a circuit through the square. Some 150,000 pilgrims gathered at St. Peter’s Square cheering the Pope and waving national flags and banners. Willingly, he stopped for few moments and took some babies in his arms to bless them.
