Retreat18 01In the invitation to attend the retreat Fr. Marek Sadowski, Provincial of New England wrote: “Most of us serve in parishes and because of all our activities, we sometimes do not have time for private adoration”. And describing this time of encounter with God he continued: “Also, when serving in parishes, we prepare many conferences and preach many homilies. During this retreat there will be no homilies and conferences.”
Retreat18 022 Retreat18 021Confreres from our communities in Brooklyn, NY (both houses), Derby, CT, New Haven, CT and Provincial came to Villa St. Vincent, a retreat and recreation residence of the CM Eastern Province almost on a coast line of Cape May, NJ. The retreat started on  Monday afternoon, October 8 and finished on Friday morning, October 12.
retreat18 041Indeed, Adoration of the exposed Blessed Sacrament was the highlight of each day of the retreat. Twice a day, in the morning and in the afternoon Jesus Christ was present in the Blessed Sacrament for adoration, common prayer of the Church (Breviary), meditation and reflection in silence. Eucharist followed the exposition every day. Of course, there was time for social activities and staying private in silence. too.
Retreat18 03On Friday, on their way back to Brooklyn and Connecticut all confreres visited Brother Joseph Zurowski, who is a resident in St. Catherine’s Infirmary, St. Vincent’s Seminary, Philadelphia, PA, the Motherhouse of the Eastern province. They came right in lunchtime meet brother Joe, other Confreres and visiting Miraculous Medal Shrine. Everybody enjoyed the visit very much.

So are for other religious communities. Regarding the Common Rules each year, every member of the community has to take part in five days retreat. This week, twelve Confreres gathered in DePaul Residence, Manchester, CT for days of reflection, dedication and sharing. Others have had their annual retreat in other time. The retreat started on Monday, October 8 in the late afternoon and the common lunch on Friday, October 12 retreat concludes. A Polish-born Cappuchin Friar, working among Christians in the Middle East leads the exercises. Earlier this year he lead Lenten Retreat Program in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Brooklyn, NY.

Retreat schedule includes:

MONDAY

  • 1700 – Arrival,
  • 1745 – Evening prayers and Opening Conference
  • - Dinner followed

TUESDAY, WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY

  • 0800 – Breakfast
  • 0910 – Morning prayers
  • 0930 – Conference
  • 1145 – Eucharist
  • 1230 – Lunch
  • 1330 – Silence, time for personal reflection and meditation. On Thursday, time for Confession.
  • 1630 – Conference
  • 1745 – Evening prayer
  • 1800 – Dinner

FRIDAY

  • 0800 – Breakfast
  • 0910 – Morning prayers
  • 0910 – Conference
  • 1145 – Eucharist
  • 1230 – Lunch and departure

This is the extraordinary time for community life and sharing, so important when regularly Confreres are so involved in their pastoral ministries and responsibilities. Everybody enjoys this time greatly.

This year 19 of the Confreres of New England Province came in to the Provincial Residence in [...]]]> Common Rules of the Congregation of the Mission emphasize the importance of regular spiritual exercises for Priests of the Mission. Thus, each year, every member of the community has to take part in five days retreat. This year 19 of the Confreres of New England Province came in to the Provincial Residence in Manchester, Connecticut, for days of reflection, dedication and sharing. Others have had their annual retreat in other time and places. The retreat started on Monday, October 4 in the late afternoon and the common lunch on Friday, October 8 concluded it. It was directed by Father Victor Hoagland, C.P. from St.Michael’s community in Union City, New Jersey .

Father Hoagland is a distinguished preacher of parish missions and retreats for priests, religious and laity throughout the United States; also a director of Passionist Press, which publishes material pertaining to the Passionists and their ministry. He is principal contributor to BREAD ON WATER popular website on Catholic spirituality, blogs himself at VICTOR’S PLACE blog. He is also present on his YOUTUBE channel.

St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, Greenpoint, Brooklyn, invites for Lenten Retreat given in Polish for adults, K-12 children, high school and working youth in the church from Sunday, March 21 to Thursday, March 25. The retreat will be lead by Fr. Jacek Kuziel CM, Councilor of CM Province of Poland, working in the academic ministry in Blessed Aniela Salawa Parish, Krakow.
